Spanish Verb Tenses

Here we'll review the basic Spanish verb tenses. Read attentively the three regular conjugation models before doing the conjugation exercises below.

All the verbs you are asked to conjugate on this page are regular:

verbs whose infinitive ends with "ar" are conjugated like amar.
verbs whose infinitive ends with "er" are conjugated like temer.
verbs whose infinitive ends with "ir" are conjugated like partir.

Presente

As we've said before, presente is used for actions which are carried out in the present, but not necessarily at this very moment.

Rewrite each of the following sentences making sure that the verb matches the new subject, as in the example:

Imperfecto

This tense is used for actions which were carried out repeatedly over a period of time which is already over. It is the tense you would use, for example, to tell about your memories: what you used to do at an earlier period of your life.

Pretérito - Past

Like we've said before, the Spanish verb tense pretérito is used to refer to actions which were carried out on specific occasions.

Futuro

The Spanish verb tense futuro is used to refer to an action which will be carried out at some point in the future - not necessarily immediately.

Rewrite each of the following sentences in the same manner as in the previous exercises:

Condicional

The Spanish verb tense Condicional is used to refer to actions which would be carried out if a certain precondition would be met. Think of yourself fantasising what you would do if you were rich or famous, or if you would win the lottery, or simply...if you only could!
